Staff Profiles:

Bevan - Duty Manager
I have worked at the Pig & Whistle for five years, spending four years as Duty Manager. The main aspect of my job is customer service, to ensure our patrons get the best experience we can provide. This requires effective management of my team.
The two things I enjoy the most about working at the Pig & Whistle are the fun staff and the fact that no two days are ever the same. There is a great social aspect to the job with an opportunity to develop long-term friendships. The environment is busy and unpredictable, providing different challenges every day. I have learned many practical skills, people management being the most valuable. Staff development is a key focus and as such I have had the opportunity to attend various courses including cocktail training, wine tasting, and hospitality fares. The experience I developed from the courses and my dealings with wine representative’s enabled me to set up the Chardonnay Club, and food and wine evenings for our patrons. Also plan a comprehensive wine list for the bar which compliments the food on our menu.
I am very active outside of work being a keen sports enthusiast. The Pig & Whistle is supportive in my interests, allowing me the flexibility, due to roster shifts, to play various sports and also sponsoring the cricket team I play for.
Elaine - Finance Manager
During the four and a half years I have worked at the Pig & Whistle I have had the opportunity to experience a variety of different roles. I started on a part-time basis as private functions co-ordinator. Having excelled in this area, I was offered a full time position taking on additional responsibility of office administration.
Within five months I was able to progress and take sole charge of the Pig & Whistle accounts. After a year of achieving success in the accounts position I was offered the opportunity to work for our affiliated café /restaurant business, Capers Epicurean in a similar accounts role. I embraced this opportunity and recognised the exciting challenges it offered. Upon completing one year as accounts officer at Capers, I accepted a promotion to manage the accounts for both businesses and started my study towards becoming an accountant, which I am currently completing. The Pig & Whistle allows me flexible working hours so I can attend my courses. This has been a major motivating factor in my decision to study, knowing that I can earn as I learn.
In addition, I have organised and implemented the chardonnay club which involves another (very social) dimension of the business. During the winter months I play and coach the Marist Angels netball team which the Pig & Whistle sponsor.
